Stopped by Kyle's work last week, Frog Design, and got some paperwork sorted out. We were able to meet some of his co-workers there. Everyone is so nice and friendly. I think that is one of the harder things to deal with. Being from the States, we are not used to such openess.
In San Francisco, if someone comes up to you, they usually do because they want something from you. For example, they would ask for money, or your time, or they want to offer you something. In Amsterdam (AMS) we are shocked every time someone just wants to get to know us. It is unsettling, but we try to hide our fears and open up to random people on the street. One of my former coworkers, originally from Ireland, poked fun at me about this. He would say, "People will want to talk to YOU. Seriously, not because they want something but they are genuinely interested in getting to know you."
How true... how true.
In other news, we FINALLY got all our packages. From shipping to receiving, it took approximately 7 days. Even during the New Years holiday. Not too bad. The packages had some wear in it but out of 6 boxes, only 2 were inspected by customs. We haven't opened them yet, but I suspect that they didn't find anything of worth. Hopefully nothing is damaged. The important things of worth would be Kyle's Cintq and the Playstation3.
Had dinner at some local restaurants and we've had nothing but good service. I am sure there are worst service out there, but we haven't encountered it yet. I do have to add we have tried cooking at home a couple times with our basic dishes. Chicken parm with pasta, Beef Stir Fry, and Spaghetti and Meatballs. they all turned out well. We had an easy time finding asian ingredients here. Terribly happy about that. Including our Fuzzy logic rice cooker and our recently acquired Le Micro chopper. I think those are the main appliances we can't live without!
Oh and some exciting things we've finally found, at least for us, snack pretzels and peanut butter. The peanut butter though is Skippy and taste's sweeter than JIF. A little adjustment needed, but I am sure it will be fine for now. Though I do miss the more nutty flavor.
